Vestfjardargong (Vestfjarðagöng) Tunnel
Vestfjardargong (Vestfjarðagöng) Tunnel
The West Fjord’s road 60 disappears into the Vestfjardagong tunnel. This tunnel opened in 1996 and at almost 15km in length is Iceland’s longest, connecting Isafjordur, Onundarfjordur, and Sudureyri, which together form the Isafjardarbaer municipality.
The tunnel is a vital link between these communities, allowing for safer travel in winter.
